Beating Egypt's summer heat for less: inverter AC and smart HVAC maintenance
With summer temperatures above 40 degrees in much of Egypt, air conditioning is no longer a luxury. It is essential for productivity, for food and medicine storage, and for customer comfort. It is also the largest summer electricity cost for most commercial buildings.
The problem
Old fixed-speed units switch on and off at full power all day. Dirty filters and coils force them to work longer. Refrigerant leaks and worn fan belts quietly push consumption up year after year.
Inverter technology
Inverter air conditioners adjust compressor speed to the actual cooling load instead of cycling on and off. They typically use 30 to 50 percent less energy than fixed-speed units, keep a steadier temperature and are quieter.
Maintenance that saves money
Clean or replace air filters monthly in summer, clean condenser and evaporator coils each season, check refrigerant pressure, tighten electrical connections and replace worn belts. A clean system can use noticeably less power than a neglected one.
Other quick wins
Set thermostats to 24 to 25 degrees, use window film and reflective roof coatings to block heat, seal doors in cold rooms, and add timers so units are off when buildings are empty.
What to keep in stock
Filters in the right sizes, coil cleaner, refrigerant, copper pipe and insulation, capacitors, contactors, fan motors and drain pumps. Having them on hand turns a breakdown into a short visit instead of a lost day.
How Palm helps
